Grounds for Growth (commonly known as G4G) is a project started by students at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2013. Our goal is to make a positive impact on the environment and the community through our creation of our coffee soap bar made out of 100% recycled materials. We work with the residents of Restoration Urban Ministries, a local shelter, on manufacturing the soap and running the business. In addition to making the soap, we work to empower the residents with business and technical skills that they can use in the workforce. 100% of the proceeds go back to the residents of Restoration Urban Ministries and since the beginning of 2016 we have generated almost $1500 in profits for them.
Through our partnership with Restoration Urban Ministries, we have created a coffee soap bar made out of 100% recycled materials. The coffee grounds in the soap act as a natural exfoliant for your skin, helping clean it even more than a normal bar of soap. Each bar of soap is packaged in a box made of recycled materials and comes with an insert explaining our mission and a quote from one of the residents about what the project means to them.
